Weeks 21 Day 6: Nov. 9, 2009

Day 153: Last Thursday, our prosthetist adjusted Travis' leg. The difference has been night and day. Hallelujah! Travis was getting really gun shy about using his leg. Mentally, he had parked his new "car" in the garage. He hurt immensely to take any steps. One day our speech therapist asked him how it was going. Travis replied bluntly, "It's like getting pinched in the groin every time you take a step!" Poor guy! Thursday's adjustment changed things up. Now, Travis walks gingerly and carefully, but doesn't have intense pain. His steps are slow and he always uses crutches. His palms are bright red when he's done from holding himself up with his hands. But, he's walking!
This week, Travis has started to stand up without using his walker for support. It's still there in case he loses his balance, but he lifts himself up out of bed with only his left leg and stands, then repeats it over and over again 300 times. Try that for fun!
