5 Months 14 Days: Tuesday, Nov. 24,2009
Day 168: Emily's surgery went really well. The doctor said the screws came out easily and her knee looks a lot less "swollen without the plate." We have to leave the dressing on for a few days, but it will be interesting to see the difference. We were at the hospital from 7 in the morning until about 3 in the afternoon. The surgery took around an hour, but Emily took longer than expected coming out of anesthesia. Then, she was pretty sleepy and dizzy for a few hours. She fell asleep on the way home. That nap finally did the trick. After that she was pretty much herself. She's even been crutching around some on her own tonight. She has a bag full of screws and the plate to show everyone, so come on over! I am amazed that all those screws were attached to the bottom end of her femur--10 screws in maybe 4 inches of bone, incredible! We are very grateful to have this surgery over with and that it went so well. Thank you "Dr. Joe!" We are very lucky to have you in our lives. I foresee a great Thanksgiving feast in the near future and Emily enjoying every bite! Happy Thanksgiving to all!
