Day 48: July 28, 2009

Day 48: Today was a really good day for Travis. He was stronger, in less pain, and talked a lot more. He is beginning to really concentrate on using the right words instead of substituting "administration, application, apply, or advise" as generalized nouns or verbs. He will catch himself and come up with the word on his own, or look at us to fill in the word, or even describe the word he is trying to say. He is making more sense. I really feel like we are able to discuss ideas now.

He had another shower yesterday. It didn't tire him out as bad as before. He is able to sit up straighter for longer. He is even transferring from bed to wheelchair almost by himself. That is hard to do without using your legs and with a broken thumb on one hand and a broken wrist on the other. Pain seems to be the name of the game--unavoidable.

Travis has been growing a beard to be proud of. When I left tonight, his mom was clipping it short and his dad was going to give him a shave--a new experience for them all!
