6 Months: December 10, 2009

Half a year has gone...seems so long ago. Travis continues to astound me with his determination and hard work to get better. With every visit to the physical therapist he adds another quarter mile to his treadmill workout. Last Wednesday (Dec. 2), he walked .75 miles in 24 minutes. Friday, he walked a mile in 38 minutes. Monday, he walked 1.25 miles in 42 minutes. Yesterday, he walked 1.5 miles in 47 minutes. To walk with an above knee prosthetic takes 60% more energy. He focuses, sweats, and amazes all of us! He is beginning to do modified squats on an inclined plane. He is learning to get up off the ground to sitting or standing position. This is in case he falls on the ice. He needs a lot of help with this and it hurts his left leg quite a bit, but he practices.
Tomorrow Travis will have jaw surgery. Only 2 teeth touch. His bones have healed, so the surgeon can now go in and cut the bone, realign his teeth, plate the jaw, and "wire" it shut. He will have "dinner through a straw" for several weeks, but he is ready to get it done. Keep him in your prayers!
