Jaw Surgery

Travis' surgery went really well on Friday. It took a little over 2 hours. Our doctor was very pleased with Travis' teeth alignment. He cut Travis' jaw bone in order to align the teeth. Then he used a plate and screws to secure the jaw bone. The doctor said he moved his jaw forward 6mm. All this was done from an incision inside the mouth. He did wire Travis' jaw shut and that is how we found him after surgery, as well as a little swollen and sleepy.

The rest of our hospital stay was a rodeo. Travis battled dizziness and nausea horribly. He threw-up twice and was just miserable. The best remedy was to shut the door, turn out the lights, and lie absolutely still. Saturday his nasal passages swelled up. He could hardly breathe through his nose. That made me more nervous about him throwing up. Last night he got a good dose of nausea medication which made him sleep hard. This morning, he woke up feeling much better. I think the anesthesia was finally wearing off. We took our opportunity to run for it. I drove slow and steady all the way home, wheeled him up the ramp and into bed where he has stayed. Let me tell you that after 3 days in the same clothes, a shower is bliss! There's no place like home! We are glad to be home, hopeful that we've seen the last of our hospital stays, and grateful to have this surgery behind us. "To infinity and beyond!"
